Welcome to Chaparral Books

Welcome to the home of Chaparral Books. Our store is located at 1975 SW First Avenue in Portland, at the east edge of Lovejoy Fountain Park. Please search or browse our inventory of hard to find, out of print, used, and rare books.

Special thanks to Julia Duin, who read from her new book, "In the House of the Serpent Handler," Saturday at Chaparral. A Seattle-based journalist, Duin spent months in six Appalachian states, interviewing Pentecostal preachers who "take up" venomous snakes as a test of their religious faith.  Copies of the book are still available at the store.
